Pakistan's National Transmission Company

Powering Pakistan through a Reliable National Grid

We build, operate and maintain the extra-high-voltage network that carries electricity from power plants to distribution networks across the country.

Our role

How Electricity Reaches You

Electricity travels through three connected stages. National Grid - Pakistan is responsible for transmission: the extra-high-voltage infrastructure between power plants and distribution networks.

We plan and build connections, operate, maintain and inspect electricity transmission assets. National Grid - Pakistan does not generate electricity or supply it directly to households.

Generation

Generation is the starting point: power plants convert energy from sources such as water, fuel, sunlight or wind into electricity. Connections then feed that electricity into the wider system.

Distribution

Distribution companies operate local networks and handle household connections, billing and local supply enquiries. The distribution company named on a customer’s bill is the right contact for those services.

One Network, Connections across the Country

Power plants and the communities they serve can be far apart; National Grid’s transmission corridors connect them across regions, while grid stations provide the junctions between lines and voltage levels.

Reliable Power Takes Continuous Work

Keeping a transmission network working involves more than adding new lines. Existing equipment needs inspection, maintenance and periodic testing throughout its service life.

Maintain the Connections Already in Service

Inspections help identify wear or damage. Planned maintenance gives teams time to repair equipment, while protection and monitoring systems help detect faults and limit their effects.

Prepare for Tomorrow's Demand

As demand grows and new power plants connect, the network needs enough capacity to carry their electricity. Development can involve upgrading equipment, strengthening existing links or building new connections.

A new chapter in Pakistan’s power transmission journey

LAHORE: National Grid Company of Pakistan Limited, the country’s national electricity transmission utility, has formally launched its new brand identity and logo, National Grid - Pakistan. The launch marks a significant milestone in the company’s transformation journey.

The new identity reflects the company’s vision: to be a world-class, highly efficient, safe and reliable national transmission service provider, delivering affordable and sustainable power while leveraging digital transformation and enabling a smooth energy transition.

The new identity also builds on more than 25 years of NTDC’s legacy, which began in 1998 with the unbundling of WAPDA. As NTDC’s legal successor, National Grid - Pakistan is Pakistan’s leading transmission service provider. Its mission is to plan, develop, operate and maintain the national electricity transmission network, ensuring reliability, affordability and sustainability in support of national development. In carrying out this mission, the company is responsible for the country’s Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission system of 220 kV, 500 kV and above.

National Grid - Pakistan continues to expand the national grid and deliver major projects, having successfully transmitted a peak demand of 25,552 MW while sustaining consistent revenue and profitability.

Looking ahead, under its FY2027–29 Business Plan, the company aims to raise transformation capacity from 70,910 MVA to 96,905 MVA. It will do this through new 765 kV, 500 kV and 220 kV infrastructure, HVDC integration, additional grid stations and thousands of kilometres of new transmission lines. This expansion will help meet growing demand and bring new generation onto the grid.

Operational excellence remains central to the company’s agenda. This includes modernising the network, removing transmission constraints and strengthening governance, asset management and project delivery. Digitalisation will sharpen planning and investment decisions, covering enterprise systems, condition-based monitoring, drone inspections, SCADA and cybersecurity.

Indigenisation is another strategic priority. The company will promote local industry participation and build domestic technical capability. It will also steadily reduce reliance on imported equipment and services to strengthen supply-chain resilience and cost efficiency. Financial sustainability, safety, regulatory compliance and enterprise risk management underpin the strategy.

The company’s core values of Safety, Integrity, Accountability, Reliability and Excellence, Sustainability and Innovation guide this transformation and shape its day-to-day operations. Safety comes first for its people, contractors, communities and assets. The company acts with honesty and transparency and takes ownership of its performance and its stewardship of public assets. It also pursues operational excellence and long-term environmental, social and financial sustainability, and embraces innovation to drive the energy transition.

As Pakistan’s leading transmission service provider, National Grid - Pakistan reaffirms its commitment, under its new identity, to a reliable, efficient and resilient transmission network that powers the country’s energy needs and economic growth.
